CON101: What the "C" in cFTE Really Should Mean

One interpretation is cFTE means how much clinic someone does related to their work each day. We don't argue that is one interpretation of the acronym and the phrase in and of itself; however, there are other ways to look at it. During our session, we will share real-world trials and tribulations about how we have had to look at productivity and compensation structure related to this one definition and introduce a much broader approach to providers' time in your organization. How else can we look at this to help business leaders and providers look at someone's overall benefit to face-to-face patient interactions and their impact on the entire practice? We intend to dive deep into this theory that the whole FTE can be more than just clinical and how we value and assign time to those often overlooked activities. We will explore how we as leaders in healthcare management shouldn't just look past time that is "built-in" but rather as an opportunity to open up discussion with our executive leaders and physician partners. Impacting everything from recruitment to retention to bonuses and more, our new definition of cFTE can cause growth and help financial leaders plan for the unexpected.
